Designer Roundtable: building swipeable Profiles

A deep dive into how we adapted one of Arc's most beloved features for Dia.

Marco (product designer), Christine (product designer) and I (product designer) recently sat down to talk about Dia's new swipeable Profiles. This is a recording of that conversation from July 2026.

The reason we decided to share this conversation was to expose the thinking that went into the implementation of this feature. We know it felt like it took a long time, and you might be asking why. Hopefully we answer that here, directly.

We show design explorations and the wide thinking we did along the way, as well how we solidified the purpose, values and naming to create something that's familiar to Arc but unique to Dia. We also show some of craft details that went into this specific implementation that we are really proud of. I switch locations about halfway through because of a downed power line in my neighborhood, but that's a story for another time.

The design goal was to create something that solved a growing pain point in Dia, but that would also would make users of Arc Spaces truly satisfied. It needed to be future facing and support fast context switching, which we believe will have increasing value in the future.

Our goal continues to be: build an internet computer and we can't do that alone so take a listen, enjoy the conversation, and please let us know any thoughts.

Have a nice day.
